Conscious Living - Strong Body: Muscle Building-Yoga
At Hyp-Yoga we stress living life to the fullest, especially in regards to taking care of your body or losing weight. Our focus for our Weight Loss classes at the Omaha Yoga School have been on gaining new muscle through our Hyp-Yoga practice in order to increase our metabolism. Here are the facts: In an hour long aerobic session you may burn 200-500 calories depending on your body and intensity. That is fantastic - you have strengthened your heart and boosted your endorphins - keep it up! But the calorie burning stops when you are done working out. (Your metabolism may be slightly still elevated for an hour or two afterward...)
Want to burn calories all day long? Here is the answer - build more muscle! No it won't make you "bulk-up" or look like a muscle bound god/goddess unless you train 4 hours a day, and happen to have the needed genetics. What it will do is increase your metabolic rate as muscle burns far more calories than fat. Putting on about 1 extra pound of muscle on your body will allow you to eat 300 more calories a week without affecting your weight. If you are trying to lose weight 1 extra pound of muscle will take off a pound of fat in about 12 weeks if you change nothing else in your diet. (There are 3500 calories per pound of fat.) Other benefits of gaining muscle include: strengthening bones and preventing osteoporosis, bragging rights on how much you can "bench", achieving a toned, lean look, increased energy, and increased functional strength.
At Hyp-Yoga we suggest cross training your body to keep the mind engaged and your muscles moving in new ways, so feel free to get out there and lift up a dumbbell.
with Subconscious Help - Strong Mind: Hyp-Muscle
Your Motivation is like a muscle as well - It needs to be trained and strengthened in your mind. To continue (or start) your positive mind training, start with this affirmation:
"Everyday I get healthier, leaner and stronger."
Say this to yourself throughout the day, as you are doing your yoga, and 10 times before you go to sleep each night. (This is the first step in learning self-hypnosis!) When you practice this positive self-talk you are slowly creating a new identity as a healthier person. If you want to get there even quicker, we suggest hypnosis.
